The Mining and Rock Excavation Technique business area provides rock drilling tools, underground rock drilling rigs for tunneling and mining applications, surface drilling rigs, loading equipment, mobile crushers and exploration drilling equipment. It has a complete range of related consumables and offers service through a global network.
The business area has its principal product development and manufacturing units in Sweden, the United States, Canada, China and India.
In 2010, the business area had revenues of BSEK 22.5.
The market
The mining sector is a key customer segment of the Mining and Rock Excavation Technique business area, accounting for about 60% of annual business area revenues. The applications include production and development work for both underground and open pit mines as well as mineral exploration and geotechnical drilling.
The other key customer segment is construction, which represents more than a third of annual revenues. Underground drill rigs are used for tunneling while surface drill rigs are used in various infrastructure and construction projects.
Mining companies and contractors are vital customer groups for aftermarket products such as maintenance contracts, service and parts, as well as consumables and rental.
The aftermarket business, sales of consumables, and rental of equipment represented 60% of revenues.
